You are Flight Lieutenant Robert Robson, fearless wing ace of the RAF. It's 1944, and you were on a bomber escort mission to Dresden when you were shot down by Luftwaffe Air Ace The Red Menace, Hans Von Ruffhausen.

Captured by angry civilians as you landed in German farmland, you were quickly handed over to the SS who have incarcerated you in Castle Dumkopff, the most feared P.O.W. detention centre in Germany. Only one man has previously escaped. Captain Bucky O'Harahan. A stout Irishman, who escaped by killing a guard and meticulously removing his skin with improvised tools made from shaving razors, wearing it and walking out the front gate.


You are in your cell. It is dimly lit with a small desk.

Thinking back to those whirlwind three months spent with Jenny on rest leave, just prior to the Dresden mission, you sigh longingly as you recall just how utterly insane your sweetheart is. Her matted tangled hair, the Ketamine habit, her beautiful big green bloodshot eyes, the way she would only speak to cheeses on Friday and her insistence that all items of clothing were enemy spy-devices..

Missing her deeply, you realise this SECRET is another of her adorable eccentric imaginings. There is no SECRET and you love her all the more.

Compelled by a strange notion that burning the NOTE will reveal whatever message the WAXY DEPOSITS hold, you strike a MATCH and hold it to the corner of the paper.

However, not entirely unsurprisingly, the NOTE simply sets on fire and is quickly engulfed, leaving only ashy deposits scattered upon the cold stone floor.


It is 10:15am and the guards are doing their morning patrol. There is a sharp knock on your cell door.

"Gotten Himmel! Are you in zer, Lieutenant Robson? Ja?!"

Concealing the makeshift weapon behind you, you prepare yourself for whatever might occur next..

You here a rattle of keys from the other side of the door and the heavy, solid Kuh-lank! of a deadbolt dropping. The cell door opens, creaking under its weight and a portly, middle-aged guard enters carrying a dirty foodtray in one hand, in his other hand a Walther .303 rifle. You notice he's sweating profusely under his helmet.

"Herr Robson, it iz zo hot today in the Nazi Castle! I zink I shall be very sweaty by ze end of ze day and need ze shower! HAHAH! Do you vish your meagre breakfasten?"

The guard, seemingly uninterested in any further coversation, stoops down and places the tray of food on the floor of the cell. Standing up and wiping the sweat from his forehead with the back of his stained sleeve, he throws you a wicked grin and backs out of the cell. The sound of the door's deadlock shifting back into place echoes ominously through the silence.

The tray contains a small heap of tired-looking sauerkraut and a paper cup half-filled with dirty water. As unappealing as it looks, you realise with sudden force that you are thirsty and hungry.

Suddenly ravenous, you quickly approach the foodtray and sit down facing it. You snatch at a handful of the sauerkraut, its wet, lukewarm strings dripping greasy oil as you stuff it into your mouth. The food is quickly gone and you lick your fingers clean. It was repulsive, but you can already feel some warmth returning to your aching muscles.

The off-colour water tastes slightly metallic, leaving a gritty sediment in your mouth but similarly, your body seems grateful.

You notice the warm feeling in your muscles spreading, increasing. 'It may have tasted like pondwater' you think, 'but this must be good sauerkraut..!'

Thinking now might be a good time to continue investigating your cell, you lift yourself up off the floor. As you put your weight on your legs, that pleasant warm, tingly feeling in your thighs explodes into fire and you cry out. Confused and shocked, your head fills with pain as every muscle in your body begins to involuntarily set alight from within. Collapsing to the floor you writhe in agony, screaming at this horror you're experiencing.

Soon enough you pass out, unable anymore to endure the inferno. Your last thoughts are of the guard's wicked grin and of your beloved Jenny - her sweet smile and her final words.. that went up in flames...

The floor is stone cobbles and you regretfully note that there is no bedding of any description. All things considered, this is a cold and barren place to find yourself.
